As Dolls Enjoy Fame, Tigers
Seek Revenge
Life on the pro-wrestling circuit is less than glamorous, with the endless car rides, the flea-bag motels, the dingy arenas, the body slams.
Now and then, however, a girl is reminded what all the hard work is about.
"We're stars!"
Molly is beside herself with joy after seeing the Dolls featured in the latest issue of Wrestling World.
"One of the hottest tag teams on the circuit today are the gorgeous California Dolls," she reads out loud, "who seem unbeatable everywhere they appear and are definitely the rising stars of the wrestling world."
Iris's eyes bug out when she sees their photo in the magazine, and reads that they are the third-ranked tag team in the country.
The champs, of course, are the Toledo Tigers, with whom the Dolls already have a history.
Emboldened by the magazine spread, Harry decides to call Solly, their promoter, and pitch the Dolls for a prime match.
As the girls do some shopping at Jaco's Drive Thru market, Harry -- in an '80s flashback -- calls Solly on a "pay phone." (Who remembers those?)
But she's already seen the magazine! She loves it, and she tells Harry to get the girls to Chicago on Wednesday to wrestle in the Main Event.
Iris, Molly and Harry all go nuts!
While Solly didn't reveal who they would be wrestling, Harry warns the girls to be prepared for anything.
"It may even be the Tigers," he says, ominously.
The Dolls, you may recall, defeated the Toledo Tigers in their last match -- even after Harry made a gentleman's agreement for the Dolls to throw the match. That resulted in a lockerroom brawl and a whole lot of bad blood between the women.
If their opponents are the Tigers, warns Harry, "they'll be out for your blood. Don't be fooled by the last time. Those girls are brutal."
It turns out Harry was prescient. The Dolls opponents are, indeed, the Tigers. And the girls from Toledo are just as brutal as he warned.

A big yellow Cadillac takes the wrestling tag team the California Dolls -- Iris and Molly, with manager Harry -- across a bleak 1980s Midwestern landscape in search of their big break.
Molly, reading in the back seat, suddenly screams, "We're stars!"
The latest Wrestling World Magazine has a write-up on the Dolls...
...and calls them "the rising stars of the wrestling world."
The coverage even includes a photo -- and a No. 3 national ranking!
Iris can't believe her eyes, while the publicity has given Harry ideas.
As Iris maneuvers the car into the drive-through beer shop...
...Harry calls Solly, the promoter, to argue for a high-profile match.
Success! The girls scream for joy when Harry breaks the news -- Solly has scheduled them for a headline bout, which turns out to be a rematch with the Tigers.
After the cheering is over, however, Harry warns the girls that the Tigers will "be out for your blood."
