Click on a Screaming Lady!
Each day we feature one of the King's sketches from the world of catfighting and women's wrestling that we find particularly outstanding.
Here we collect all the past Photos of the Day.
Miss Pegram is using Emma's long hair as a built-in handle to drag her across the ring -- where she can pass Emma over to tag-team partner Foxy.
Though not without a few parting shots first, of course.
There are so many ways that long hair can be a hinderance in the ring. Emma knows this, so does Pegram -- look at her wild locks, which have suffered their share of pulling, too.
Life can be a drag,
but this is ridiculous!
Yet these proud women stubbornly maintain their long and magnificent manes. It is as if to taunt their opponents, "Come pull it -- if you can!"
Perhaps at this moment, Emma feels just a tinge of regret over that decision. In another moment, when Pegram and Foxy are double-teaming her, she'll be feeling a whole lot more than just a tinge of regret.
In the wrestling ring, c'est la vie!
Even Emma, so used to her hair being pulled in every cruel manner, is shocked at this maneuver.
Miss Pegram and Foxy have divided Emma's long hair between them, and from opposite sides are trying their harest to rip it from her head!
The two-on-one beating is a much-beloved feature of tag-team matches, a chance for teammates to get creative as they destroy an opponent.
In pro wrestling, a tagged-out wrestler is given a five-count to leave the ring. That's plenty of time for some double-teaming.
In fact, see what Wendi and Peggy do to Velvet here (our inspiration). The double hair-pull, the double kick to the stomach, the facebuster to the mat.
That's about what Emma can expect after the tug o' war ends. No wonder she looks so concerned!
With her left hand, she grabs hold of Emma's long hair -- no slipping out of this!
Note that Foxy has wrapped her legs around Emma's waist, squeezing, making breathing that much harder.
But Emma isn't finished yet! See how she yanks at Foxy's hair, making good use of that magnificent afro.
Can Foxy tolerate the pain, and loss of hair, long enough to choke out Emma? Or must the beating continue?
She immediately saw her chance!
Dropping her full weight onto Emma -- "Oooof!" -- Foxy slings her right arm around Emma's head and pulls her close.
While it might be a growing boy's dream, for a women's wrestler, getting her face trapped between her opponent's ample breasts is a nightmare.
Just ask Emma, who would agree if she could.
But the full-bossomed Foxy has applied the move to perfection. Emma can hardly breathe, much less talk.
The fight was long and viscious when Foxy landed several blows and slammed Emma to the mat.
The longer a catfight goes on, the more personal it becomes. An opponent who won't give up, but instead fights back, turns into an enemy. She not only must be defeated, she must be punished, she must be destroyed.
And, occasionally, a wrestler with the upper hand will put her feelings into words. "Trash talk," some call it.
Makes you wonder what Foxy is saying to Emma right now, and what she's going to do to her next.
Let's face it, there's no way to haul a girl around by the hair isn't painful.
But this style, well, it's diabolically designed for maximum torment and humiliation.
After a sound beating, Queen Kong has Emma slung over her shoulder, literally like a sack of pototoes, using her long hair as a handle.
Emma can only scream and flail -- she is helpless for what happens next.
It takes a powerful woman to pull off a reverse hair mare, whipping an opponent over the shoulder face-first to the met -- ouch!
But that just might be Emma's fate. She has good reason to scream.
As any athlete will tell you, whatever the sport, teamwork is the key to victory. Wrestling is no exception.
Tag-team partners work together by isolating one opponent in their corner, and then taking turns beating the daylights out of her. When she can take no more, one pins her.
It's a tried-and-true strategy, and here we see a fine example of such teamwork.
Ms. Pegram just gave Mrs. Peel a beating. But after a two-count on her pin attempt, she knew it was time for a tag-out.
So, hauling Emma up in a head lock, she delivers her to a grateful, and fresh, Foxy.
Ms. Pegram can only hope Emma survives one more pin attempt, so she gets another crack at her...
Were this boxing, Mandy would be breaking all kinds of rules, among them grabbing hair and striking an opponent on her knees.
But this is The Girls Fight Club, and Marquess of Queensberry Rules don't apply.
So Mandy is well within her rights to slug Emma.
Two women who enter the GFC ring know only one will walk out. No holds are barred; the fight continues until one woman is pinned or simply can't continue.
Since most matches are between women who already have scores to settle, the lack of rules ensures that the action is especially vicious.
Winning sometimes comes second to simply punishing an opponent.
That means Emma may have an unpleasant time ahead of her, if she can't turn things around quickly...
When it comes to pulling hair, length matters.
It gets progressively easier to grab and hold hair the longer it gets, to the point that waiste-length locks can be grasped like a rope.
That said, volume also matters. And that brings us to today's subject, the Afro.
Foxy, here wrestling Emma, sports a terrific version of the hairstyle that gained popularty in the 1960s and '70s. It was worn as a form of self-expression and defiance, by Black men and women alike. There was even the "Jewish 'fro," for white folks with kinky hair.
The Afro becomes a liability in the ring, however. Like long
straight hair, a 'fro is easy to grab and hold on to.
Look at Foxy grit her teeth as Emma rips away at that gorgeous mane!
Of course, Ivy's doing a good job herself yanking Emma's long locks. And this match promises a lot more of the same.
In fact, the two women go straight for the hair, pulling and ripping amid shreiks and screams.
And it only gets more intense:
Knees, kicks, Snap Mares, punches, elbows, Belly Stomps, body slams, breast smothering, face slaps, Boston crabs, facesitting, full body pins, and seemingly endless Hair Pulling!
And, if you just happen to have a thing for Afros, we've got a lot more Foxy for you right here.
And, if you just happen to have a thing for Afros, we've got a lot more Foxy for you right here.
There are many ways a wrestler's hair can be used against her in the ring, from picking her up off the mat to throwing her back down to it.
But there's nothing quite like the rare and spectacular
Hair Chokeout, as demonstrated here by Holly on Emma.
The move is rare because very few wrestlers -- or women in general, for that matter -- have locks long enough to be wrapped around their throats.
It's spectacular because it's a finishing move, the one and only that uses the hair. At least, it's a finisher when rules allow for chokes and such.
In mainstream pro wrestling, where both choking and hair-pulling are *WINK WINK* against the rules, the move can only be applied for the
referee's notorious five count.
Count to five -- a lot of damage can be done in that time, as Emma will attest.
At least, Emma will attest when she comes to. (And that hair will need a good brushing!)
For now, sweet dreams!
Long hair is a liability in a fight. It will be targeted. It will be used as a form of control and punishment.
It will be yanked nearly out of the skull of the
women who dares to bring it into a wrestling ring.
That brings us to Emma, the young lady with her head caught between the thighs of Foxy, a master of the hair-pulling craft. And the two-handed, head-scissor yank is just such a gratuitous infliction of pain, it's almost barbaric!
Emma's echoing screams attest to the effectiveness of Foxy's tactics! Thank heaven, for long-haired girls!
There's no wrestling strategy at play here for Foxy. She's simply using Emma's own hair to hurt and punish her.
"Slap!"
There's something especially provocative about the face slap. Not as damaging as a punch or kick, the slap is less about causing damage than sending a message.
It is often the first blow in a conflict, followed immediately by a scream, four hands sinking into two heads of hair, and more screams.
"A slap in the face" has even evolved into a popular idiom, defined by Webster as "a surprising act that offends or insults someone."
The slap isn't just a fight starter, though. It can also be used as a form of discipline, later in the match, as a parent would slap a wayward child. The idea isn't to seriously hurt the child, but to show her who's boss.
That's the kind of slap Foxy is delivering to Emma. They been wreslting for a long time, and each has received her share of abuse.
Finally getting the upper hand, Foxy is now taking out her frustration on Emma, showing her who's boss. "Take that, bitch!" is an expression that might accompany the slap.
What follows the stunning slap is up to Foxy. From this position, a Hair Mare into a pin attempt would be a natural. Or she might just want to deal out a few more slaps, to make sure Emma has truly learned her lesson.
Foxy's last move sent Emma to the mat, hard, on her keister. But she's not stopping to admire her work.
Foxy practically sprints over to her opponent, grabbing Emma by the hair before she can even figure out what hit her.
Wrestling is all about maintaining the advantage, never giving a stunned opponent a chance to recover.
When she’s down, don’t let her up. Unless, that is, you’re dragging her up only to slam her back down again.
From the look on Foxy’s face, that appears to be the plan. Emma’s expression shows she knows it, too…
Emma is just inches from the tag, but Pegram is determined not to let it happen.
Pegram's put a lot of work into pummeling Emma. To let her get away now, and bring in a fresh girl, would be a catastrophic failure.
With one handful of hair, she can drag Emma back into the ring, where she can finish the job.
The "job"? Beating the hell out of Emma and, once there's no more to beat out, pin her.
What happens next? Stay tuned...
Even if Honey had won the match fair and square, which she didn’t, there’s no call for this kind of humiliation.
Poor Emma.
First, she essentially wrestled one vs. three, with Foxy and Pegram constantly interfering — it felt like she was getting punched and grabbed from every direction at once — and now this!
Check out those collusive grins on their faces! Pounding their archenemy always feels good.
And, besides, Honey wouldn't have won without them.
So, perhaps in some sense, Foxy and Pegram deserve those triumphant handfuls of Emma’s beautiful auburn hair.
All’s fair in love and war, after all, and women’s wrestling falls somewhere tantalizingly between the two…
